These conferences follow on from a series of eleven successful EU And All That! conferences run by the Hansard Society between December 2006 and May 2009 principally to launch and promote the European Parliament: What’s that? teaching resource.
The Hansard Society is the UK’s leading independent, non-partisan political research and educational charity. We aim to strengthen parliamentary democracy and encourage greater public involvement in politics. Our work is based on the belief that an effective parliamentary system is central to a successful democracy. At the heart of our work is the principle that civic society is most effective when its citizens are connected with the institutions and individuals who represent them in the democratic process.
The Hansard Society’s activities, meetings and publications focus on educating and encouraging participation in the democratic process. From the outset the Hansard Society has promoted the importance of political education in schools and has an established reputation among teachers as a provider of quality political literacy teaching resources. Among its best known are HeadsUp, Y Vote Mock Elections, and our Representatives in Schools series. The combination of a reputation for high quality school resources is matched by the Hansard Society’s strictly independent non-partisan status, which affords the Society support across the political spectrum.
